S. Navy) de visita en Valparaíso, 1957. El USS Boston fue construido originalmente como crucero pesado, pertenecía a la clase Baltimore y entró en servicio en 1943. Tras servir en la Segunda Guerra Mundial en el frente del Pacífico fue pasado a la reserva en 1946. Fue reconvertido en crucero de misiles guiados, y sus torres de artillería popeles reemplazadas por lanzadores de misiles superficie aire Terrier, que se aprecian en la imagen. Title A name given to the resource Crucero ligero alemán Karlsruhe Description An account of the resource Crucero ligero Karlsruhe de la Marina de Guerra Alemana (Kriegsmarine), vista de su banda de babor, imagen captada en Chile, enero de 1935. Durante su visita a Chile, estaba al mando del Capitán de Navío (Kapitän zur See) Günther Lütjens, y ella incluyó el paso de este buque por el estrecho de Magallanes y Canales Australes, y recaladas en Talcahuano y Valparaíso. El crucero ligero Karlsruhe entró en servicio en 1927 y tenía otros dos gemelos, el Köln y el Köningsberg. Sirvió en la Marina de Guerra alemana (Kriegsmarine) en las primeras fases de la Segunda Guerra Mundial y fue hundido el 9 de abril de 1940 por un submarino británico, durante las operaciones de invasión a Noruega. Günther Lütjens, con el grado de Almirante (Admiral), comandó la división naval cuya insignia era el acorazado Bismarck que realizó una célebre campaña en el Atlántico, siendo objeto de una cacería por la flota británica, que lo hundió el 27 de mayo de 1941.
