Imagen captada durante la Expedición Antártica de 1951. Fue fundada el 6 de febrero de 1947, en el curso de la Primera Expedición Antártica emprendida por la Armada, y establecida en Isla Greenwich, archipiélago de las Shetland del Sur. Su construcción fue dirigida por el arquitecto Julio Ripamonti y el Capitán de Corbeta Emilio Macera, siendo objeto de sucesivas ampliaciones en épocas posteriores.
