En esta imagen aparecen tanto médicos como auxiliares, y es de notar una cierta heterogeneidad en los uniformes, propia de las primeras fases de este conflicto, como las casacas o levitas de diverso corte, de abotonadura simple o doble, y las prendas cubrecabeza, sobresaliendo las gorras distintivas del Servicio Sanitario chileno, blancas con una cruz roja en el frente y dos bandas rojas a los costados. Halsey, durante su visita a Chile, Valparaíso, agosto de 1946. William F. Halsey (18821959) fue uno de los almirantes más destacados de la Segunda Guerra Mundial y de la historia naval en general. Durante dicho conflicto sirvió a su país en el teatro de Operaciones del Pacífico, destacando su mando de fuerzas de tareas en las campañas de Guadalcanal y las Islas Salomón, Bougainville, Rabaul y las Filipinas. En esta última campaña, destacó especialmente al mando de la Tercera Flota en la batalla del Golfo de Leyte de octubre de 1944, formación que lideró hasta el final de la guerra.
