Al centro El Comandante del mismo, Capitán de Navío (Kapitän zur See) Günther Lütjens. El crucero ligero Karlsruhe entró en servicio en 1927 y tenía otros dos gemelos, el Köln y el Köningsberg. Sirvió en la Marina de Guerra alemana (Kriegsmarine) en las primeras fases de la Segunda Guerra Mundial y fue hundido el 9 de abril de 1940 por un submarino británico, durante las operaciones de invasión a Noruega.
