El Capitán de Navío Señoret (1812-1875), de origen francés, participó en la Guerra contra la Confederación Perú-Boliviana y posteriormente tuvo una destacada hoja de servicios en tiempos de paz, en especial como hidrógrafo. El Capitán de Navío Merino Jarpa (1855-1900) tuvo una activa participación en la Guerra del Pacífico y, durante la Guerra Civil de 1891, se alineó en el bando congresista, destacando su actuación en el Combate de la Aduana de Iquique.
