Este dique flotante se había accidentado durante el temporal que se abatió sobre el puerto homónimo el 21 de mayo de 1940, dándose vuelta de campana con el vapor Chile en su interior, que zozobró. No obstante obtenerse el pago del seguro, se resolvió recuperarlo y devolverlo a su posición original, siguiendo un proyecto planificado y dirigido por el Ingeniero Naval, Capitán de Fragata (R) y Gerente del Astillero Las Habas, Federico Corssen, de manera que la faena se realizó con todo éxito el 16 de agosto de 1941. Tras ocho meses de reparaciones, estuvo nuevamente en estado de servicio y siguió activo hasta 1980, cuando se hundió definitivamente por causas accidentales.
