Imagen de su banda de babor captada desde un bote volador PBY Catalina de la aerolínea peruana Faucett. Nótese que sus palos trinquete y mayor proel ya han colapsado. También se distinguen lanchas para rescatar a sus tripulantes a su alrededor, probablemente del mercante argentino Río Jáchal. Dicha unidad naval era la ex barca mercante alemana Priwall de la firma Laeisz, que quedó internada en Chile en 1939, al estallar la Segunda Guerra Mundial. En 1941 fue cedida por el gobierno germano a la Armada de Chile, siendo utilizado como buque escuela y para transportar salitre hacia California, Estados Unidos. En el trágico incendio que capta esta imagen, ocurrido frente a la costa del Perú, perdieron la vida veinte de sus tripulantes y, tras vanos esfuerzos para salvar su casco, el buque se hundió el 8 de marzo.
