Fue realizado en 1986 por W. Bierl de la fábrica Mayerische Hofkrunstanstabt de Münich, Alemania, en base a un óleo de Arturo Kühl. Este vitral se encargó para ser montada cuando dicho museo, denominado en ese entonces Museo Naval y Marítimo, se trasladó desde el Castillo Wulff de Viña del Mar al Edificio Luis Uribe Orrego de Playa Ancha, Valparaíso, donde había funcionado la Escuela Naval hasta 1967. El nuevo Museo fue inaugurado el 23 de mayo de 1988, y en la actualidad sigue ocupando el mismo local, aunque con el cambio de nombre ya señalado.
