Ex Citta de Venezia, ex Spartan, había sido adquirido por el gobierno del Presidente José Manuel Balmaceda durante la Guerra Civil de 1891, entrando al servicio de la Marina una vez finalizada ésta. Desplazaba 5.975 toneladas y tenía un andar de 15 nudos. Tras décadas de servicios, tuvo un trágico final la noche del 6 de julio de 1928, cuando naufragó cerca de Corral, pereciendo 262 personas entre tripulantes y pasajeros. El Angamos entró en este dique en agosto de 1895 a modo de prueba, previo a a su inauguración oficial. Nótese que en esta imagen aún luce el nombre de Spartan.
