Title A name given to the resource Buque Hidrográfico Vidal Gormaz fondeado en Valparaíso Description An account of the resource Buque Hidrográfico Vidal Gormaz fondeado en Valparaíso, vista de su banda de estribor, década de 1940. Nótense las iniciales de identificación en la amura y la bandera nacional pintada al costado, que denotan que la imagen seguramente fue tomada durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial. Este buque era un yate (ex Jason, ex Cynara) construido en Inglaterra en 1913, y reacondicionado en los astilleros Thornycroft de Southampton cuando fue adquirido como buque hidrográfico por Chile. Fue el primer buque especialmente adquirido para esta función con que contó la Armada de Chile. Arribó a Chile el 5 de mayo de 1940 y sirvió en su función original hasta 1953, cuando fue destinado a buque ténder de la Escuela Naval y Escuela de Grumetes. Fue dado de baja y enajenado en 1958.
