Esta unidad, encargada por Chile en el marco del Plan Centenario para renovar la flota, fue terminado en septiembre de 1914, pero el estallido de la Primera Guerra Mundial demoró su entrega, al ser incorporado a la Royal Navy, la Marina británica.
