Estos destructores se incorporaron en 1897 y sirvieron hasta 1924, cuando tres de ellos fueron dados de baja: el Orella, el Serrano y el Muñoz Gamero el Riquelme fue dado de baja en 1930. Eran prácticamente idénticos a los tres destructores clase Merino Jarpa. Nótese la cubierta del crucero Zenteno, pudiéndose distinguir su pieza popel de 6 pulgadas, cubierta por una lona protectora, y jefes y oficiales navales e invitados civiles que observan el ejercicio.
