Cuatro de estos aparatos fueron adquiridos en 1953, al reactivarse esta fuerza. Fueron los primeros helicópteros con que contó la Aviación Naval y su rol era de exploración, siendo también los primeros en operar embarcados, esto a partir de 1955, cuando uno de ellos se utilizó a bordo del crucero ligero Capitán Prat.
