Al centro aparecen el Comandante General de Marina, Vicealmirante Jorge Montt Álvarez, el ministro de Chile en Argentina, Carlos Concha Subercaseaux y el General de Ejército Salvador Vergara Álvarez. Esta comitiva acaba de desembarcar del Crucero Chacabuco y se dirige a pie hacia la Casa Rosada, sede del Gobierno argentino. Ésta fue una visita de amistad y buena voluntad realizada con motivo de la firma de los llamados Pactos de Mayo de 1902, acuerdos sobre arbitraje y limitación de armamentos que pusieron fin a una etapa de tensiones entre ambos países por diferencias de límites, que había marcado los últimos años del siglo XIX y comienzos del siglo XX.
