Title A name given to the resource Teniente 2° Ignacio Serrano Montaner Description An account of the resource Ignacio Serrano Montaner, teniente 2° de la corbeta “Esmeralda” el 21 de mayo de 1879. Para ese entonces mandaba la 1ª división de artillería (ocho piezas Armstrong de 40 libras y dos Withworth de 32), junto al guardiamarina Vicente Zegers. Serrano encabezó una partida de abordaje aprovechando el segundo espolonazo del blindado peruano “Huáscar”, y fue muerto en su cubierta. Éste fue el segundo intento de abordar a dicho buque, después del que le había costado la vida al comandante Arturo Prat. En el anverso de la imagen su grado está erróneamente identificado. En el reverso de la misma se lee la siguiente nota manuscrita: “Ignacio Serrano muerto en la cubierta del “Huáscar” al abordarlo en el combate de éste con la Esmeralda el 21 de mayo del 1879”.
