Retrato realizado hacia 1915. Hermano mayor del máximo héroe naval chileno, Arturo Prat Chacón, durante la Guerra del Pacífico, en 1880, se incorporó al Ejército como oficial de Artillería, sirviendo en unidades de Valparaíso y Santiago. Tras el conflicto, en 1885 ingresó como empleado civil a la Gobernación Marítima de Valparaíso donde sirvió 30 años, hasta jubilar como Oficial Mayor en 1915. Dicho año lideró, junto a su colega Teónimo Barros Montano, la iniciativa de organizar la Sociedad Protectora de Beneficencia de Empleados Civiles de la Armada, actual Club de Empleados Civiles de la Armada, y fue su primer presidente.
