Este jefe naval (1894-1989) egresó como guardiamarina en 1912 tomó cursos de Artillería y Torpedos, destacando también en las especialidades de Hidrografía y Navegación. Entre sus destinos destacados cabe mencionar la Dirección de la Escuela Naval (1939), la Comandancia en Jefe del Apostadero Naval de Valparaíso (1941) y la Comandancia en Jefe de la Escuadra (1942). En 1946, con el grado de Vicealmirante, fue Jefe del Estado Mayor de Coordinación, actual Estado Mayor de la Defensa Nacional, y se acogió a retiro en 1947. También destacó por ser un prolífico y respetado escritor sobre temas históricos y navales, siendo autor de numerosas crónicas, objeto de recopilaciones, una biografía del Vicealmirante Patricio Lynch y la obra La vida militar de O’Higgins, entre otras.
