Title A name given to the resource Puertas de acceso Museo Marítimo Nacional Description An account of the resource Puertas de acceso Museo Marítimo Nacional. Los planos de este edificio fueron encargados al arquitecto Carlos von Moltke para albergar a la Escuela Naval y las obras empezaron en 1884, pero sufrieron múltiples demoras de diversa índole, desde falta de fondos hasta las alteraciones propias de la Guerra Civil de 1891. Al año siguiente se aceleró en su terminación, de manera que pudo ser inaugurado el 5 de marzo de 1893. Con el correr del tiempo, el constante aumento de cadetes, conforme a las necesidades de la Armada, hizo necesario pensar en una nueva sede para la Escuela Naval. Tras aprobarse el proyecto respectivo comenzaron las obras del nuevo plantel en 1957, y en 1967 se produjo el traslado a ésta, que sigue siendo la sede actual. En 1983 se iniciaron las obras de transformación del ala norte para la instalación del Museo Naval y Marítimo, que fue inaugurado el 23 de mayo de 1988. El 22 de julio de 2011 el Museo Naval y Marítimo cambió su nombre por el de Museo Marítimo Nacional, pasando a ser el primer museo de carácter nacional ubicado fuera de la capital. El 24 de agosto de 2012 el edificio, llamado Almirante Luis Uribe Orrego, fue declarado monumento nacional.
