Tras ello, los sobrevivientes de SMS Dresden fueron llevados por unidades de la Armada de Chile primero a Valparaíso y posteriormente a Isla Quiriquina, donde permanecerían internados el resto de la guerra, en cumplimiento a las leyes de neutralidad.
