Obra basada en la tela sobre este mismo tema por Thomas Somerscales pintada en 1910, y conservada en el Salón Independencia del Club Naval de Vlaparaíso. Esta tela ilustra la partida de la que en realidad se denominaba la Primera División de la Escuadra Nacional desde Valparaíso, al mando del Capitán de Navío, Comodoro Manuel Blanco Encalada, el 9 de octubre de 1818. Esta fuerza naval estaba integrada por el navío San Martín (insignia), en primer plano, al centro de la imagen la fragata Lautaro, hacia la izquierda de la imagen, por la banda de estribor del San Martín la corbeta Chacabuco, hacia popa del San Martín, por la banda de babor de éste, y el bergantín Araucano, situado también en un segundo plano, entre el San Martín y la Lautaro. Quedó en Valparaíso el bergantín Pueyrredón (ex Águila), que se aprecia en un tercer plano, fondeado y con sus velas recogidas. Esta primera misión de una escuadra chilena organizada como tal tuvo un exitoso resultado, ya que se capturó a la fragata de guerra española María Isabel en Talcahuano, el 28 de octubre, y en los días posteriores, a varios de los transportes del convoy que ésta custodiaba.
