Algo similar a lo que sucede con el entorno del barrio. Es de notar, a los costados de la escalinata de acceso, el emplazamiento de dos cañones coloniales, el Triunfante y el Trepidoso, fundidos en Lima en 1776 y 1778, respectivamente. Ambos se encuentran en un patio de la Escuela Naval actual. Nótese la bahía, con la mezcla de veleros, vapores y pontones surtos, habitual en la época. La Escuela Naval fue creada en 1818 como Academia de Jóvenes Guardiamarinas, y funcionó con intermitencias durante la primera mitad del siglo XIX. En 1858 reabrió con el llamado Curso de los Héroes, entró en receso en 1876 y fue reabierta en 1881. Desde 1893 ocupó una nueva sede, donde actualmente funciona el Museo Marítimo Nacional, y en 1967 se trasladó a su sede actual. En 1945 pasa a denominarse oficialmente Escuela Naval Arturo Prat.
