En la escena se observa a dicha fragata atacando e intentando aproximarse a la fragata española Esmeralda, a la que abordó y estuvo a punto de tomar. Esta captura fracasó y el comandante O’Brien perdió la vida en el intento, pero este combate tuvo el efecto de levantar el bloqueo de Valparaíso y hacer perder a los españoles su espíritu ofensivo.
