Así se deduce de la traducción de la leyenda que la acompaña, que es la siguiente: El buque de guerra chileno Almirante Cochrane, bautizado en honor al gran héroe naval británico y chileno, Lord Cochrane, décimo conde de Dundonald. Un acorazado tipo Dreadnought en construcción inmediatamente antes de la Guerra también había sido bautizado Almirante Cochrane, pero el comienzo de las autoridades causó que Gran Bretaña tomase el buque.
