Constituía clase junto con el Huemul, y ambos fueron encargados a los astilleros Forges et Chantiers de la Mediterranée de Toulon, Francia, en 1889, en el marco del programa de renovación de la flota de la administración del Presidente José Manuel Balmaceda. Desplazaban 150 toneladas, podían dar 13 nudos de velocidad, y estaban armados con una pieza Hotchkiss de 37mm. Además de su maquinaria, tenían aparejo para poder navegar a vela, en caso de emergencia. El Cóndor formó parte de la Escuadra congresista durante la Guerra Civil de 1891, y en años posteriores se desempeñó activamente en comisiones hidrográficas. Se hizo conocido en la Marina de la época por un accidente acaecido en 1901, cuando perdió la hélice, y sus tripulantes, con elementos disponibles a bordo, pudieron improvisar una hélice de reemplazo. Fue objeto de una modernización en 1927, fue retirado del servicio en 1927 y enajenado en 1945. En la imagen se le ve con empavesado completo, con ocasión de una revista o ceremonia. Este vapor había naufragado la madrugada del 28 de noviembre de 1955 tras cortar amarras, precisamente en el canal de Tenglo, que separa la isla homónima, frente a Puerto Montt, de tierra firme, quedando semihundido debido a la poca profundidad de ese pasaje. Varias fueron las tentativas para reflotarlo, y la que capta esta imagen tuvo lugar el 15 de diciembre del mismo año, la que resultó ser infructuosa. Finalmente, la nave fue abandonada por la empresa, y años después desguazada, debido a que se había convertido en un obstáculo para la navegación por dicho canal. Constituía clase con su gemelo, el Ortiz, y ambos fueron construidos en Escocia y entraron en servicio en 1897. Su casco era de fierro, desplazaban 450 toneladas y podían rendir 9 nudos. Durante gran parte de su vida útil, el Gálvez sirvió como remolcador de puerto en Talcahuano fue dado de baja en 1966 y desguazado en 1968. Fue construido en los astilleros Bow McLachlan & Co. de Cowes, Escocia, lanzado al agua en 1929 y constituía clase junto a los Sobenes (1°), Colo Colo (4°), Galvarino (3°) y Cabrales (1°), todos los cuales entraron en servicio en 1931, siendo también denominados remolcadores de alta mar. Desplazaban 760 toneladas, daban una velocidad de 12 nudos y estaban armados con un cañón de 57mm. Su primera misión fue servir de buque ténder de la Escuela Naval, en 1931. Éste era en verdad un remolcador de construcción norteamericana, clase Apache, y similar a los Yelcho y Sargento Aldea, adquiridos en diversos momentos. Fue construido en 1943 con el nombre original de USS ATF 109 Potowatomi, desplazaba 1.506 toneladas, su velocidad máxima era de 15 nudos y su armamento era de un cañón de 3”/50 y 4 ametralladoras de 40/56mm. Fue cedida en comodato por el gobierno estadounidense en virtud del convenio P. A. M. (Pacto de Asistencia Mutua). Izó la bandera el 27 de agosto de 1963 en San Francisco, California. Su carrera sería corta y de final dramático. El 15 de agosto de 1965 el Janequeo naufragó trágicamente en la caleta Lliuco, bahía de San Pedro, al sur de Corral, mientras intentaba auxiliar al patrullero Leucotón, que había encallado en un fondo de arena, el día 2. Al destrozarse contra los roqueríos, la Janequeo se llevó la vida de 51 oficiales y tripulantes, incluyendo al capitán de fragata Claudio Hemmerdinger, el capitán de corbeta Marcelo Léniz, el cabo Leopoldo Odger y el marinero Mario Fuentealba.
