Arturo Wilson Navarrete (1851-1936) era guardiamarina de dotación de la Corbeta Esmeralda para el Combate Naval de Iquique del 21 de mayo de 1879. Sobrevivió al enfrentamiento, fue hecho prisionero, posteriormente canjeado, y prosiguió su servicio en la Armada durante el resto de la Guerra y el período de postguerra. Se acogió a retiro en 1916. Title A name given to the resource Vicealmirante Luis Uribe Orrego Description An account of the resource Vicealmirante Luis Uribe Orrego (1847-1914). Ingresó a la Escuela Naval en 1858, en el llamado Curso de los Héroes, junto a su primo Arturo Prat. Tomó parte en la Guerra contra España y en años posteriores realizó diversas comisiones hidrográficas y una a Inglaterra, con ocasión de la adquisición de los blindados Cochrane y Blanco Encalada. Allí se casó sin autorización, por lo cual fue sometido a consejo de guerra, defendido por Arturo Prat, entonces estudiante de derecho, y absuelto. En 1879 era Teniente 1° y 2° Comandante de la corbeta Esmeralda para el Combate Naval de Iquique del 21 de mayo, debiendo tomar el mando tras la muerte de Prat. Sobrevivió al enfrentamiento, fue hecho prisionero y posteriormente canjeado. Tras su liberación fue ascendido a Capitán de Fragata y nombrado Comandante de la cañonera Pilcomayo. En 1885 se halló entre los fundadores del Círculo Naval (actual Club Naval) y la Revista de Marina en 1888, siendo ya Contralmirante, estuvo al mando de la Escuadra que condujo de Iquique a Valparaíso los restos del Comandante Arturo Prat, el Teniente Ignacio Serrano y el Sargento Juan de Dios Aldea para ser inhumados en la cripta del Monumento a la Marina. Entre 1887 y 1889 fue Comandante General de Marina, y entre 1892 y 1985 fue Director de la Escuela Naval, tocándole inaugurar el nuevo edificio, actual Museo Marítimo Nacional. Se acogió a retiro en 1899. Es autor de trabajos de historia naval entre los que destacan los libros Los Combates Navales en la Guerra del Pacífico, Nuestra Marina Militar y Nuestra Marina Mercante.
