Nótese su inicial de identificación pintada en la proa. Éste era uno de los seis buques de su clase encargados por Chile a astilleros ingleses como parte del llamado Plan Centenario. Sólo el Almirante Lynch y el Almirante Condell alcanzaron a llegar en 1914, antes del estallido de la Primera Guerra Mundial, mientras que tres de los cuatro restantes fueron readquiridos tras finalizar la misma, incluyendo al Williams (ex HMS Botha).
