Title A name given to the resource Minador Leucotón durante una revista, década de 1930 Description An account of the resource Minador Leucotón con su tripulación formada, durante una revista. Constituía clase con sus gemelos Orompello, Colo Colo (3°) y Elicura, y habían sido construidos en astilleros de Helsinki, Finlandia, en 1914, para Rusia. Fueron adquiridos por Alemania después de la Primera Guerra Mundial y, a su vez, readquiridos por Chile en 1920, siendo reacondicionados como minadores y barreminas en los astilleros de Samuel White & Co. en Cowes, Reino Unido. Desplazaban 540 toneladas, desarrollaban una velocidad de hasta 14,5 nudos y fueron armados con dos cañones de 3 pulgadas (76mm) de tiro rápido (salvo el Colo Colo, que sólo tenía uno), además de una carga de minas que podían llevar, si se daba el caso. Llegaron a Talcahuano en flotilla, el mismo año 1920, y a lo largo de su vida operativa también cumplieron el rol de escampavías. El Leucotón fue dado de baja en 1945. El Constitución fue construido en los astilleros Armstrong de Elswick, Newcastle-on-Tyne. Tras la distensión que significaron los llamados Pactos de Mayo, y su compromiso de limitación de armamentos, ambos acorazados fueron vendidos a Gran Bretaña en 1903, siendo el Constitución rebautizado como HMS Swiftsure y el Libertad como HMS Triumph. Este buque había sido encargado en 1896 a los astilleros Armstrong de Elswick, Newcastle-on-Tyne. Desplazaba 8.500 toneladas, su velocidad máxima teórica era de 21,25 nudos y su protección consistía en una faja blindada de 7 pulgadas de espesor máximo y una cubierta de dos pulgadas. Su artillería estaba constituida por cuatro piezas de 8 pulgadas (203mm) en torres simples blindadas (7”,5), dos a proa y a popa, en crujía y dos en los costados, a la altura del puente de mando diez piezas de 6” (152mm), protegidas con medias torretas de 6” cuatro piezas de 4”,7 (120mm), diez de 12 libras, diez de 6 libras y dos tubos lanzatorpedos de 18” (457mm). Su dotación era de 500 hombres y se distinguía por ser el único crucero chileno en tener tres chimeneas, por lo que era apodado el 111. Entró en servicio en julio de 1898.
