Title A name given to the resource Transporte Angamos (3°) abarloado a pontón Santa Lucía, hacia 1950 Description An account of the resource Transporte Angamos (3°), en servicio entre 1946 y 1967, abarloado al pontón Andalucía. Este último era una barca velera construida en Francia en 1899 con el nombre original de Ville de Mulhouse, y adquirida por la naviera Menéndez Behety de Punta Arenas hacia comienzos de 1927 posteriormente, en 1940, fue integrada a la flota de la Compañía Chilena de Navegación Interoceánica, la que la mencionada naviera había contribuido a formar. Durante los años de la Segunda Guerra Mundial realizó un activo tráfico de carbón entre Magallanes y Buenos Aires y tras el conflicto fue vendida a la Armada, la que lo utilizó como pontón. Este buque era gemelo del Constitución, habiendo sido ambos encargados para reforzar la Escuadra durante el período de tensiones con Argentina. El Constitución fue construido en los astilleros Armstrong de Elswick, Newcastle-on-Tyne. Tras la distensión que significaron los llamados Pactos de Mayo, y su compromiso de limitación de armamentos, ambos acorazados fueron vendidos a Gran Bretaña en 1903, siendo el Constitución rebautizado como HMS Swiftsure y el Libertad como HMS Triumph. Constituía clase con su gemelo, el Maipo (3°). Ambos fueron construidos en los astilleros Armstrong de Newcastle-on-Tyne su desplazamiento era de 8.225 toneladas, su velocidad era de 15 nudos y estaban armadas de dos piezas de 4,7 pulgadas (120mm) y dos ametralladoras. El Rancagua entró en servicio en 1930. Tanto esta unidad como su gemelo tuvieron una extensa e intensa hoja de servicios, con misiones tan relevantes para el país como viajes periódicos a buscar petróleo al puerto peruano de Talara, durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial e inmediata postguerra, período en que este combustible era especialmente escaso. También hizo las veces de buque escuela, realizando viajes de instrucción en 1938, 1939, 1941, 1942 y 1948.
