Éste es uno de los buques menos conocidos en la historia de la Armada por su corta vida. Era un ex mercante nuevo, construido en Lübeck, Alemania, en 1927 y adquirido en 1928 por Chile desplazaba 3.100 toneladas y podía desarrollar una velocidad de 10,5 nudos. Adquirido para ser utilizado como carbonero, transportaba un cargamento de este combustible hacia Punta Arenas cuando chocó, el 10 de marzo de 1931, contra una roca no registrada en cartas, en Puerto Refugio.
