En esta ocasión arribó junto a su gemelo el Almirante Cochrane, buques que habían sido cedidos a Chile por los Estados Unidos mediante préstamos renovables. Ambos eran clase Fletcher y el Blanco Encalada había sido construido en 1943 con el nombre original de USS Wadleigh, para servir en la Armada estadounidense (U. S. Navy). Esta escuadra estaba compuesta por los cruceros Almirante Brown y 25 de Mayo, fondeados hacia el extremo del Molo de Abrigo, los destructores Juan de Garay, La Rioja, Tucumán, Mendoza, Cervantes, Buenos Aires y Entre Ríos y el patrullero Murature. A la misma ocasión también asistió una fuerza naval norteamericana. Fondeado a la gira, se halla el acorazado Almirante Latorre. El Constitución fue construido en los astilleros Armstrong de Elswick, Newcastle-on-Tyne. Tras la distensión de los Pactos de Mayo, y su compromiso de limitación de armamentos, ambos acorazados fueron vendidos Gran Bretaña en 1903, siendo el Constitución rebautizado como HMS Swiftsure y el Libertad como HMS Triumph.
