Este buque era un yate (ex Jason, ex Cynara) construido en Inglaterra en 1913, y reacondicionado en los astilleros Thornycroft de Southampton cuando fue adquirido como buque hidrográfico por Chile. Fue el primer buque especialmente adquirido para esta función con que contó la Armada de Chile. Arribó a Chile el 5 de mayo de 1940 y sirvió en su función original hasta 1953, cuando fue destinado a buque ténder de la Escuela Naval y Escuela de Grumetes. Fue dado de baja y enajenado en 1958. Title A name given to the resource Lancha torpedera Fresia (4ª) en servicio Description An account of the resource Lancha torpedera Fresia (4ª) en servicio, vista de su banda de estribor, abril de 1966. La Fresia formaba parte de una clase de cuatro lanchas torpederas, siendo sus gemelas la Guacolda, la Tegualda y la Quidora, construidas en los astilleros de la Empresa Nacional Bazán en Cádiz, España, en base a un diseño de la firma alemana Lürssen. Fue entregada el 9 de diciembre de 1965. Tras su entrega en servicio esta unidad, junto a sus gemelas, integró la Flotilla de Torpederas, creada en 1967 con base en Puerto Williams, tocándoles una importante labor de resguardo de la soberanía nacional, especialmente en momentos de tensión con Argentina, como durante la crisis del Canal Beagle de 1978. En 1997 dicha flotilla fue disuelta y sus componentes pasaron a ser lanchas de servicios generales (LSG), retirándoseles sus tubos lanzatorpedos. La Fresia fue asignada a la Gobernación Marítima de Valparaíso, dada de baja en 2005 y posteriormente trasladada a Punta Arenas donde fue instalada en calidad de monumento en la Plaza de la Soberanía, en 2007. Sólo estos últimos alcanzaron a llegar al país antes del estallido de la Primera Guerra Mundial, y tres de las unidades restantes clase Almirante, que pasaron a servir en la Marina británica (Royal Navy) fueron readquiridas al término de dicho conflicto.
