Este oficial (1846-1909) participó en la Guerra del Pacífico y, al comenzar la Guerra Civil de 1891, se puso a las órdenes del Presidente José Manuel Balmaceda, siéndole asignado el mando de dicho cazatorpedero y de la flotilla gubernamental. Al mando de ésta realizó numerosas incursiones contra la Escuadra congresista, siendo la más destacada la que resultó en el hundimiento del blindado Blanco Encalada, en Caldera. Title A name given to the resource Contralmirante Edgardo Von Schroeders Sarratea Description An account of the resource Contralmirante Edgardo Von Schroeders Sarratea, hacia 1930. Este jefe naval (1883-1956) egresó de la Escuela Naval como Guardiamarina de 2ª Clase en 1901, y entre los destinos de la época temprana de su carrera cabe mencionar comisiones en la Marina Imperial y Real Austrohúngara (1907) y en la Misión Naval en Londres (1908).En 1921 fue el primer jefe de la Base Aeronaval de Las Torpederas, Valparaíso, realizando diversas gestiones para el progreso de esta especialidad, entre las que se cuenta la obtención de terrenos para construir una nueva base en Quintero, lo que hace que sea considerado un pionero de la Aviación Naval en Chile. Fue Agregado Naval en Londres en 1923 y nuevamente en 1927, para supervisar la construcción de nuevos destructores para la Escuadra. Con ocasión del Motín de las Tripulaciones de septiembre de 1931, le cupo un rol de mediador entre el Gobierno Provisional y los insurrectos, experiencia sobre la cual posteriormente publicó un libro. Durante 1932 fue Director General de la Armada en carácter interino en dos ocasiones, entre enero y marzo y nuevamente en octubre. Dicho año se le concedió el retiro.
