Ésta se realizó en un marco de acercamiento y amistad tras el período de tensiones por diferencias de límites, superado momentáneamente por los llamados Pactos de Mayo de 1902. Dicha delegación chilena fue encabezada por el vicealmirante y ex Presidente de la República, Jorge Montt Álvarez, y se embarcó a bordo de los cruceros Blanco Encalada y Chacabuco, que permanecieron en Buenos Aires entre el 22 de mayo y el 6 de junio de 1903. La casa natal de Arturo Prat es una propiedad que perteneció a su familia, la hacienda de San Agustín de Puñual, comuna de Ninhue, región del Biobío. Fue construida en 1780, sufrió daños en los terremotos de 1939 y 1960 y fue declarada monumento nacional en 1968. En 1976 pasó a manos del Fisco y su custodia se confió a la Armada de Chile, llevándose un proyecto de restauración encabezado por el arquitecto René Adaros y el museólogo Walter Grohmann, quien también llevó a cabo la renovación del Museo Naval (actual Museo Marítimo Nacional), inaugurado en 1988. La casa, ahora denominada Santuario Cuna de Prat inaugurada en 1979, con motivo del Centenario de las Glorias Navales, sufrió nuevos daños en el terremoto del 27 de febrero de 2010, siendo restaurada en 2012.
